대학교 및 연구기관

2006년 현재 서울에는 12개의 전문대학, 38개의 대학교를 포함한 총 50개의 대학(교)과 정부출연기관을 비롯해 국공립 연구기관, 민간 비영리 연구기관, 기업 부설 연구소 등의 연구기관이 자리 잡고 있다. 서울에 소재하는 대학(교)은 대학 설립 제한으로 1990년대 말 이후로 약간의 감소가 있어왔으나, 대학원 수는 지속적으로 증가해오다 2000년 이후 급증 추세에 있다. 대학은 강남보다는 주로 강북에 위치하고 있으며, 연구기관들은 도심을 중심으로 한 강북과 구로구, 여의도 및 강남권에 집중해서 위치해 있다.

UNIVERSITIES & RESEARCH INSTITUTES

Seoul has 50 universities and colleges(12 junior colleges and 38 universities), government funded institutions, government and public research institutes, non-profit private research institutes and research institutes attached to companies. The restriction on establishment of universities resulted in a meager decrease in universities(and colleges) in Seoul after late 1990s. On the contrary, the number of graduate schools has continued to rise, and, particularly, has shown a sharp increase since 2000. Most universities are located in the north of the Han river rather than in the south, and research institutes are concentrated in downtowns in the north of Han river, Guro-gu, Yeoido, as well as the south of Han river.
